Kosher Gift Baskets

A Gift That’s Well Appreciated

Kosher gift baskets are the perfect gift for anyone who follows a kosher diet.

If you are unfamiliar with the term, kosher food items are those that have been approved for consumption by those who follow the Jewish religion. These foods can be eaten under what are called the Kashrut laws, which are laws that are written in the Jewish holy book, the Torah.

Kosher gift baskets are perfect for those of the Jewish faith, because they can safely, under the guidelines, eat the items that are included. If you have a friend, family member, or co-worker who is Jewish, but you aren’t sure if he or she follows a kosher diet, a kosher gift basket is always a safe bet. Not only will the person appreciate it, but he or she will be touched by how thoughtful you are.

Meat that is added to a kosher gift basket cannot come from certain animals, such as rabbit or pig, that is uncloven or any birds of prey. If you plan to include seafood, it cannot be any kind of shellfish or a sea creature that does not have both scales and fins. Any meat included must have been slaughtered and prepared under the guidelines stated in Jewish law.

Any kosher gift basket that includes meat cannot include dairy products because Jewish law states that meat and dairy cannot be consumed together.

If you are unsure what to include, kosher gift baskets usually include items such as cookies, bagels, oils, fish, latkes, desserts, and sweets. Anyone who isn’t of the Jewish faith can be intimidated by the rules, or may not fully understand them, so the best thing to do is have someone who does know create the basket for you.

Special occasions such as Hanukkah, Passover, Purim, bar/bat mitzvahs, and birthdays are perfect times to give a kosher gift basket.
