It is amazing how many varieties of see life thrive under the water, so many of which offer a tasty treat. Just about everyone worldwide enjoys eating seafood, especially anyone lucky enough to live near a body of water in which popular seafood choices abound. You don’t necessarily have to live in one of these areas to enjoy seafood since you can find it just about everywhere.

The types of seafood enjoyed depend on the area in which people are enjoying it. North Americans find crab, shrimp, scallops, lobster, mussels, clams, crayfish, and calamari, just to name a few, to be popular choices. Other varieties enjoyed there, as well as throughout the world, are salmon, catfish, halibut, cod, whitefish, sole, and bluefish.

Seafood is so popular, that if an area doesn’t produce a popular variety, it is often imported from a country that does. Most often you’ll see this happen when it comes to octopus, squid, and the sturgeon eggs that are used in the creation of caviar.

How you prepare your seafood also depends on where you live. Many people bake, broil, fry, grill, smoke, boil, and barbecue seafood, while others prefer it raw. If you are a person who prefers their seafood cooked, you should remember that it cooks rather quickly. Over cooking it can cause it to dry out or, in some cases, become rubbery.
