Can You Fondue?

Fondue is a fun fad that just doesn’t seem to want to quit. Just when you think it has finally gone out of style, it pops right back up again in social circles.

In case the concept is new to you, fondue is something that was not only popular, but also commonplace during gatherings and dinner parties in various decades such as the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Cheese fondue is quite popular, but one of the most well-known is chocolate. With chocolate fondue, dessert was made fun and interactive. Pieces of fruit, as well as small chunks of cake, could be dipped into the sweet confection for a satisfying treat.

The word itself is French in origin, although the fad actually originated in Switzerland. It comes from the word fonder, meaning to melt.

When attempting to serve chocolate fondue, a pot of is set over a heating source and various ingredients are added into the pot to heat. When it has come to the correct temperature, people gather around the pot and dip accompanying food items into the pot of melted chocolate goodness. Any type of chocolate can used to make fondue along with additives like liqueur or other flavors. Any variety of fruit of your liking (apples, bananas, oranges, etc.) and/or pound cake can be dipped into the fondue. All of which should be cut into bite sized pieces.
